The Newfound Chamber Winds Summer Music Festival is a two-week chamber music and new music intensive. The NFCW Summer Music Festival combines three programsβthe Tidewater Composition Workshop, the Newfound Chamber Winds Conducting Fellowship Program, and the Newfound Chamber Winds Chamber Music Fellowship Programβinto a unique musical experience, modeled after the collaborative spirit of Newfound Chamber Winds. Participants of each program receive individual and group instruction and mentorship from NFCW Artist Faculty, work side-by-side with faculty to perform traditional and newly composed works, collaborate and network with musicians of different programs, and receive high-quality video and audition documentation of their work and performances.

NFCW Summer Music Festival day-to-day activities will take place at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Festival activities will primarily take place at ODUβs Diehn Center for Performing Arts, which features numerous individual and group practice and rehearsal spaces.
Concerts will take place in Chandler Recital Hall at the Diehn Center for Performing Arts.

Newfound Chamber Winds Summer Music Festival participants may choose to either be housed on-campus or secure their own lodging. On-campus housing consists of single-occupancy rooms with private bathroom and shared kitchen and common spaces. The dorm is a short walk from the Diehn Center for Performing Arts.
NFCW Summer Music Festival does not require participants to purchase a meal plan of any kind. Old Dominion University offers a variety of affordable on-campus dining options. Additional dining options are available a short walk off-campus.
Individual mini fridges are also available for rental through ODU Housing for $50 for participants residing on-campus.

Typical Daily Schedule
The Newfound Chamber Winds Summer Music Festival experience is modeled after how Newfound Chamber Winds has worked and grown together through its rigorous, yet communal rehearsal environment. Each day offers a balance of rehearsal, coaching, collaboration, composing, practice, and mentorship. After the conclusion of the first festival cycle (June 8-11), participants are given a full day off of festival activities (June 12) to recuperate and socialize. Following the day off, participants and faculty return to normal festival activities for a second festival cycle.
An example of a typical day would be:
Breakfast
2-3 morning rehearsal/presentation blocks (Large Conducted Chamber Ensembles, Conducting Sessions, and Composition Presentations)
Lunch
Mentorship Sessions with NFCW Faculty, Guest Artists, and Guest Composers
Composition Seminar; Chamber Music Rehearsals and Coachings
2-3 afternoon rehearsal blocks
Dinner
Evening performance event
Additional activities built into the schedule include:
1 on 1 lessons with NFCW Faculty, Guest Artists, and/or Composition Faculty
1 on 1 Mentorship Time with NFCW Faculty
Parking and Transportation
Airport Transportation:
Transportation to and from the airport will be provided to those who opt to use the NFCW shuttle.
Otherwise, participants are responsible for their own transportation to campus and lodgings.
On-Campus Parking:
The most cost efficient way to pay for parking On-Campus is to purchase the 1-week Visitor passes at the rate of $25/week.
Due to the amount of days on campus, this means you should set aside $50 for parking.
Permits require you to create a Guest Account and to Upload your Vehicleβs Registration Documents.
Please remember to SCAN your Vehicle Registration Documents, otherwise you will not be able to purchase a parking permit at this rate.

These permits will allow you to park ANYWHERE on campus as long as the permit is valid except: Hourly Only Location (Lot 7), ADA Accessible (without Valid DMV Issued Placard), Reserved, Carpool (before 2:00pm), and Restricted areas (such as Loading Zones).
